TABLE MOUNTAIN – WORLD
HERITAGE SITE
Quietly presiding over the City
of Cape Town, Table Mountain has over the
centuries become one of South Africa's best-known
landmarks. This breathtaking sandstone plateau
rising steeply above the Cape Flats is a World
Heritage Site, as well as a nature reserve. The
famous flat top is approximately 3 km wide, and
its highest point, Maclears Beacon, rises to 1 086
m above sea-level. The summit can be reached by
trails or via the recently refurbished cable-car.
The latter boasts a revolving floor for panoramic
viewing on your way up. From the top you are
offered magnificent views of the most beautiful
city in the world.
BLOUBERG BEACH – PLACE
OF HISTORY AND SCENERY
Possibly the most famous,
fabulous and photographed views of Table Mountain
are the ones afforded from Blouberg Beach.
Blouberg forms part of the city’s burgeoning West
Coast suburbs and is situated approximately 20 km
from Cape Town, up the West Coast on the opposite
side of the bay. In the early 19th century,
Blouberg was the scene of the famous ‘Battle of
Blaauwberg’ when the British seized the recently
acquired French colony in reaction to the
Napoleonic Wars.
